Proper Weight Maintenance. There are several guides online that will tell you, based on your height, what you should weight. Look these up and see if your current weight falls in the ranges provided. If it doesn’t start an exercise program so you can lose the pounds/kilos necessary to be in your healthy range. By dropping down to your ideal range, your blood vessels will be able to expand fully and less pressure will be on them.

If you are taking hypertension medication, don’t skip your doses. There are better alternatives to drugs to regulate your BP but if you are taking these medications, then it is very important to never miss a dose.

Exercise daily. This is not the same as losing weight as mentioned above. Try to exercise for at least half an hour a day. You don’t have to exercises the 30 minutes at one time, you can split it into segments, like 3 segments of 10 minutes each. The exercise will promote better heart health.

Pick a good diet. A diet low in salt and high in potassium is good. Potassium helps lower your high blood pressure and the less amount of salt means the less amount of water retention you will have. There is a widely known HBP diet known as the DASH diet. Look into it as a possible choice.
Stop drinking alcohol and smoking. Both of these raise your BP. By avoiding these actions, you will not raise your BP levels.

Lastly, get enough sleep. It is recommended to sleep 8 hours a day. So make sure you sleep enough. Try using ear plugs if you are easily waken by noises in the night. Make sure the room you sleep in is dark to prevent distractions as well.

Hypertension is a very serious disease, it can cause death from a heart attack or stroke. It can also leave you paralyzed from a stroke. You should take every precaution to prevent and treat this disease. The fact is the HBP is a silent killer and presents little if any symptoms before you are actually diagnosed.
